How to Search for Wallpapers in Wallpaper Engine
Use the Workshop tab to find wallpapers, narrow the results with filters and check what is wrong when a search comes back empty.
Reviewed and updated September 2026
1. Open the Workshop search
Looking for a particular game, character or style? Open the Workshop tab in Wallpaper Engine. Discover is for browsing recommendations; Workshop has the search box and filters.
- Type a short search, such as a game’s name, then click the magnifying glass.
- Click Filter results to show the options on the left.

2. Narrow the results
Start with one or two filters. Adding too many at once makes it easier to miss a wallpaper.
- Resolution: choose the dimensions you want for your screen.
- Type: choose Scene, Video or Web.
- Audio responsive: show wallpapers that react to sound.
- Approved: show wallpapers checked by the Wallpaper Engine team.
3. If there are too few results
- Shorten the search to one distinctive word.
- Click Reset Filters, then try the search again. Check your age-rating choices and any options enabled in Filter Settings too.
- Add your preferred filters back one at a time.
You can also browse wallpapers on WES and follow a wallpaper’s Steam Workshop link to subscribe. WES searches its own catalogue, so it does not contain every wallpaper on Steam.
4. If preview images stay blank
Blank previews need a different check from an empty search. Open the Steam image-server test linked from Wallpaper Engine’s troubleshooting page.
If the test image loads but previews in the app do not, check whether your security software is blocking Wallpaper Engine. If the test image also fails, check your connection or try another network.
